Older Buildings, Different Plumbing Problems

Yuexiu is the historic heart of Guangzhou, and much of its housing stock dates from the 1980s and 1990s. That changes the job completely. Galvanised steel supply pipes fur up from the inside until pressure drops to a trickle. Cast-iron waste stacks erode at the joints. Original floor drains have shallow traps that let sewer smells into the bathroom.

Low water pressure from furred-up steel pipes

Galvanised pipe accumulates scale internally over decades. The first symptom is usually a shower that has lost its force, then taps that take longer to fill, then a washing machine that times out mid-cycle. In a building with cast-iron or old PVC waste pipes, caustic drain cleaner is a bad idea. It generates heat, attacks already-thin pipe walls, and turns a clearing job into a replacement job. Response Times Inside Yuexiu

Emergency arrivals in Yuexiu typically run 45 to 60 minutes. Dongshankou, Taojin and Wuyang New Town are the most central addresses we cover anywhere in the city. Ersha Island and the eastern edge of the district can take a little longer when the bridges are busy.

Two practical notes for older buildings in this district:

Where your main shut-off valve is. In many Yuexiu flats it sits in the bathroom service shaft or beside the water meter at the entrance, not under the kitchen sink. If you do not know where yours is, ask us to show you on the next visit — it takes two minutes and saves a great deal of damage in an emergency.
